JOHN-MIKAËL FLAUX - Homage to Al Jazari

Homage to Al Jazari

Description

The watch "Homage to Al-Jazari" made by John-Mikaël Flaux, in collaboration with Ben & Bros, marks a first in watchmaking industry by taking inspiration from the precursor automaton "The Elephant Clock" of Al-Jazari. This unique piece reinterprets the work of the twelfth century, fusing original character and contemporary watchmaking, with a touch of emotion.

The 180° arch of the hours evokes the course of the sun, offering a poetic reading of time. The subtle animations, such as the descent of the dragon, add an artistic dimension to this piece. This creation Métiers d'Arts et Haute Horlogerie combines precision mechanics and exceptional know-how, with a fine watchmaking bevelling carried out on the steel parts as well as on the ornamental part of the domed dial.

The watch is honored with a manual engraving on the plate, like the signatures of the master watchmakers of yesteryear. Each watch also has a hand-painted back, reproducing the original design of the automaton, with an opening revealing the heart of the piece. The 42 mm case houses a movement with 40 hours of power reserve.
