SKILL - Tyr
Description
Tyr, the Norse god who ensures the order of the world, is associated with Mars. On this manual-winding model with a 42-hour power reserve—indicated via a rotating clepsydra— Olivier Mory has incorporated various displays.
At 3 o’clock, in addition to local time, a view of the Earth using Al-Biruni's projection (a polar view with equidistant meridians) allows the wearer to see the time anywhere in the world at a glance. Solar and lunar glyphs indicate the meridians currently at noon and midnight in real-time.
At 9 o’clock, a small seconds counter marks the passage of time at 2.5 Hz.
At 6 o’clock, an optional counter in the form of a rotating clepsydra fills and empties to show the winding state of the barrel throughout its 42-hour power reserve.
Finally, at 12 o’clock, there is a rare display that combines a 24-hour clock with day and night indicators, calculated specifically for Mars.
As a technical curiosity, this display allows those who need it to determine the precise moment to send communications to our red neighbor to ensure proper reception. If it is nighttime on Mars, the planet is "turned away" from the Sun (and Earth), meaning radio waves from our world will not reach the intended surface.
